Cake Monkey, Los Angeles

Yummy bites from Cake Monkey make the best dessert bars. The only sad thing was that the bride could have gotten double the amount: they were gone so fast, there was no bite left for the sugar craving wedding planner:) But then I get to go to their tastings with my brides, delicious.

Luxuriously Green

Weddings are a truly magnificent excuse to throw the biggest, most elaborate party bash ever, allowing us to be kings and queens, being celebrated, applauded, loved and adored. We all deserve a day of fame and spending a fortune on it without blinking an eye. Actually we all deserve being seen and loved every day. But as long as that doesn't quite work we have "my day" often combined with " it's only one day" obsessions: one of my brides tossed $20,000 worth of deep red roses after the fairy tale, others "just" drove in a hummer limo or left us with tons of left over little frames, bells and bubble tubes. Multiply this with a million "my days" a year....
And then imagine beauty without plastic wrap and clouds of pesticides: contemporary lovebirds, whatever their style, theme or vibration celebrate with mind and heart. Be it with Zenlike simplicity or creative indulgence, with rock'n roll passion or down to earth sweetness, their celebrations include family and friends, community and the planet who sustains us.

Amy& Neal 9/5/2010 Amy's review : For the first 6 months or so after our engagement, I was our “wedding planner.” Although it was quite stressful at times (particularly trying to plan from afar- I was living many states away from where we were going to marry) I also enjoyed having the creative control. At first I even resisted the idea of a “day of” coordinator. I know, what was I thinking?! Once I realized that I actually wanted to just relax and enjoy my wedding, a close friend recommended that I call Angelica Weihs. She told me that Angelica had done a fabulous job for her (“she was everywhere, all the time!” was my friend’s exact quote). So, I called Angelica and was immediately put at ease. Right off the bat, she had great ideas for how to pull our themes together and was genuinely interested in making our wedding the most fun and beautiful it could be. Then, 10 days before our wedding, my friend who was supposed to do the flowers for us decided that she was too overwhelmed to take on this task. Boy was I EXTRA glad to have Angelica on our team! I called her immediately and within about 24 hours she had found us and met with a florist, communicated our vision, helped us secure a low price and everything was booked! Angelica’s attention to detail and her dedication continued all the way through the whole process. Even just a few days prior she was still suggesting great ideas and was invested in having everything turn out perfectly (which, by the way, it did). Day-of, it turned out to be even more crucial to have Angelica on our side. She was like the most helpful friend. She ran all over, was tying gold strings around homemade napkin holders (which she had cut for us the day before), securing our typed seating cards on old fashioned suitcases (which was also her idea), keeping everyone upbeat and happy for a most joyous “vibe” and all the while she was enjoying herself with a smile and a twinkle in her eye. Truly, my only regret was not hiring Angelica sooner- in retrospect, I should have had her plan the whole thing! I cannot recommend her more highly (and by the way, she did not ask me to write this recommendation, but I felt compelled given all that she has done for us).

Dressing room? Not for a guy....

Lots of wedding location haven't updated their light bulps or seem to care about their wasteful day to day maneuvers. Not a touch of eco to be found, also nothing to touch up rugged beauty. No feel for the guys: who wants to get dressed in a restroom, behind a divider in the bushes or come all polished up and hang two extra hours in a heavy suit?
At least eco-fashion makes it easier to breathe: organic cotton suits provide natural comfort, organic cosmetics help to feel fresh and of course, the organic beer doesn't only taste better but reduces the chance for headaches.

When it comes to the décor, consider either renting it or use props or handmade items offered by friends or from your own home, suggests Angelica Weihs, founder of two eco-conscious wedding companies, Angelique Events and Green Weddings & Events, both based in Los Angeles, and author of "Green Weddings" (VivaVerde Press, Valentine's day 2009). One of her brides brought her own Moroccan lamps and silver tea pots on huge silver trays for Moroccan mint tea, but rented 200 colorful tea glasses (or you could purchase the glasses from a Fair Trade company and use them as favors). Another one of Weihs' couples used gnarly, found tree branches to display the 200 colorful handmade origami birds that served as place cards.....read more..
